tanaRi events weddings: Ravi and Tara

tara_ravi 0133

In the mid summer of 2014, Tara and Ravi Desai exchanged vows at the Montauk Yacht Club in New York. As a fusion Hindu and Presbyterian wedding, double the excitement filled the air as guests experienced two beautiful traditions of an exceptionally romantic couple.

The outdoor Hindu ceremony was lively, with Bollywood music and a live dhol to help celebrate the occasion. Set in front of the sparkling blue water, the white and blue mandap paired nicely as the couple exchanged vows.

Shortly after a quick dress change and new makeover, Ravi and Tara strengthened their bond again with a Presbyterian ceremony at the Montauk Yacht Club Farmhouse Ballroom. Surrounded by delicate cherry blossoms and classic romantic candlelights, Tara walked down the aisle in an elegant white & pink Marc Jacobs gown as Ravi watched in his fun plaid blue suit. We couldn’t help but swoon at the love between this couple!

The fun continued at the wedding reception, where the nautical inspired ambiance was made to match the venue. Momofuku Milk Bar created a delicious wedding cake so charming, they even incorporated two Indian inspired elephants!

It was a stunning night for the books, captured exquisitely by Dragan Zlatanovic.

Outdoor Weddings – Tips & Tricks!

As a wedding planner, there are lots of details: the flowers, the caterer, managing the bride(s) & groom(s) and the entire guest list.. It truly never ends for us until the party is over and the guests have departed.
A commonly overlooked detail that for outdoor/destination weddings we can’t help but emphasize is the importance and need for alternate options and plans to an outdoor ceremony. On any day, in any city could provide extreme weather scenarios that are unanticipated and negatively impact the course of the day. Why add more stress to the day when you can prepare ahead of time. Although this may require some additional funds, this will outweigh any concerns on your wedding day so you can fully enjoy!
Here’s some of our options for tips & tricks with extreme weather..
– Fan Programs: this could be a fun way to have guests use this as their best accessory! They can fold it like origami! These can be easily found on a site like
– Parasols: get creative with this! You can use colors to complement your overall wedding theme, use a picture of the couple or provide markers where guests can write fun notes on them! Other things to consider providing your guests: sunscreen, blotting tissues, face mist, (the mini Evian face mists can be left on a table for people to pick up or in the bathroom) and insect repellant (especially for the mid-summer or outdoor ceremonies in the woods or a more rustic locale).
– Water Station: this could be providing guests with mini water bottles (and do specialized wrapping) or leave a large water jug with cups and hand towels next to it. [You can add a larger beverage station here with drinks like lemonade, iced tea or for indian weddings some mango lassi!] NOTE: you should avoid strong alcohol and drinks that can spoil in warmer weather..
– Cold snacks: let your guests snack on some cold treats like ice cream / sorbet, fruit bars or a gazpacho! Adds an extra hint of color to the day! Though, be mindful to keep stored at cool temperatures and have people hand out VS leaving out to melt.
– Tents: provide a tented area such as a cabana tent in case for extra shading. Also, considering the time of day that you’re planning the ceremony can help as well; The later the ceremony, the easier time you may have to avoid the mid-day heat.
– Umbrellas for your guests: leave them by the beginning of the ceremony aisle with big containers to put already wet umbrellas. Another fun idea is to provide rain ponchos for guests and they can have a picture of the couple or the date of the wedding.
– Tent with marquees/walk-ways: provide a place for people to stay for the chance of a surprise rain shower. We recommend avoiding using materials that people can easily slip on. Also, make sure to make signs that are legible and with materials that won’t wash away in extreme rain/snow.
– Event Insurance: in case its extreme weather and the event gets cancelled. There’s always a “what if” scenario and you’d rather be safe than sorry!
– Transportation: keep an extra eye on how the day is going. Guests may be coming from a hotel or out of town. Suggest carpooling with other guests or ask ahead of time at the hotels guests may stay to work through providing some transportation options.
– Rain cards: when sending invitations, you may have already considered a rain plan. This would be a good time to inform your guests of these plans so everyone can consider their choices for attire, transportation, etc.
– TAKE PICTURES! Rainy day weddings usually produce some of the best photos. Be creative and keep lots of color (umbrellas, rain shoes).
Depending on your location, you may require additional permits and permissions based on the grounds. Do your due diligence as well as speaking with the venue to discuss your options!
Most importantly, make sure to HAVE FUN! It is your wedding after all.. Things happen that are out of your control and making the most of the situation will be most important. Don’t get caught up in the small things and enjoy the day!

tanaRi events weddings: Nazirah & Jay

We’re a little late in posting photos from this wedding, but better late than never, right?! The beautiful decor from this June 2012 wedding of our lovely couple Nazirah & Jay is one to remember and worth the wait!

Stunning crystal clusters & chandeliers hung alongside balls of red and white flowers from the ceiling, while surrounded  by gorgeous white and pink curtains to make for a romantic evening. Each table was complete with extravagant clear vase-like centerpieces filled with white hydrangeas & red roses. Some of the rose petals surrounded the centerpieces for an extra hint of color. A fun DIY touch to this wedding was pictures of the couple holding up a number on each table to serve as the table number design!

Most importantly, we must give a big thanks to Design House Decor for their amazing vision and for bringing this fabulous day alive with so much color and beauty! It was a gorgeous affair and they were paramount in the design and decor details!

Additional thanks to Max Photo and Marriott Melville for helping make this a memorable lifetime moment for everyone! For any questions about this wedding/decor, please contact us! For extra inspiration , visit our Pinterest page for some Red Wedding Decor!

Severe Weather Relief – Tips & Tricks

For us East Coasters, this has been a week of trials and tribulations. Hurricane Sandy, which lefts its traumatic mark on the Caribbean, tore itself through the TriState area last week, leaving millions with no electricity, heat & water. Unfortunately, others have been more traumatically impacted, with the flooding, eroding and destruction of thousands of homes on the coasts of Long Island, Manhattan, New Jersey & Connecticut. The pictures you’ve seen don’t do the current event justice.

While many have been able to slowly pick up the pieces to their lives, there are still many people feeling the dire effects of last week’s events. On top of that, the current Nor’easter that started Wednesday afternoon has left the suffering in a deeper panic and others facing worry of a repeat to last week’s events.

We want to make sure our friends in these areas (as well as everyone else!) knows how to take the proper precautions should your area be affected by rain, snow, hurricanes or severe weather activity. Here are some of the essentials:

  • Batteries & battery operated technology (ie. radio)
  • Flashlights
  • Blankets
  • Hats/gloves/scarves
  • Bottles of water
  • Non-perishable food (soup, canned beans, pasta, almond milk, cereal)
  • Gas cans (to fill up for your car)

Should you find yourself in a situation where you don’t have these things, contact family, friends or locate a designated shelter closest to your home to find a warm place to stay.

For those who are fortunate to have a place to stay and host others, there’s tons that you can do to keep you & your guests entertained (with or without power!) Here’s a list of items that will help give light to the experience:

  • Deck of cards
  • cookie/brownie mix
  • Scrabble & other board games
  • Books/magazines
  • Wine/vodka (for those who drink!)

If you don’t live in the area and want to help, you can visit Occupy Sandy OR Red Cross and find out how you can help!

Thanks to everyone for your continued support! Any other suggestions for necessary items, host ideas, donation locations & shelters, please share or contact us for more ideas!
