We Get What We Give..

‘Tis the season for us to remember the joy & happiness in our lives. While there’s lots of negativity in this world, we must not forget the power of love & kindness. Even the smallest of deeds can be noticed; whether it be for yourself, another person or many.

While we take this time to reflect on what we’re most grateful for, we also want to spread the cheer by sharing with you some causes to consider donating/volunteering/inspiring you to your own cause. It’s not always money people need; it’s the time and patience of helping one another.. We challenge you not to just use our list, but do some research on your own to discover causes that are important to you where you feel you can me a difference! Here’s just a few to start you off:

The ALS Association: you may have been living under a rock this year if you were not aware of or participated in the ALS “Ice Bucket” Challenge. An organic attempt to spread awareness of the illness became one of the top viral campaigns of the year and raised over $94.3 million dollars. ALS is a truly debilitating illness for those who suffer from it and the caretakers who take on the physical, psychological and financial strain of the disease.

USO: What a better way to support our troops abroad, finishing their deployment and their families by supporting this great cause. While not directly linked to the Federal Government, the President of the United States acts as chairman and has the full backing of the US Department of Defense. This organization supplies funds to help wounded soldiers, bring entertainment and the feeling of “home” to those deployed and helping former soldiers adapt back into their home lives.

AIR: Immensely inspired by all of the individuals nominated on CNN Heroes, this particular organization (started by Dr. Wendy Ross) is making strides to help Autistic children and their parents become more acclimated to life beyond the household by helping broaden their experiences to ease the process traveling, attending sports and other activities that typically become overwhelming for an Autistic child.

WEDDING COUPLES: A great way to incorporate a charity into your wedding gift is to make a suggestion to your guests that in lieu of checks or gifts, they can make donations to organization(s) of your choice!

Pratham Gala – Raising Money For Educating Kids in India

Hurricane Sandy couldn’t stop New Yorkers from gathering at The Plaza this past November for a great cause!

Over 400 guests came to The Plaza to celebrate the Tri-State Pratham Gala & the amazing work of Pratham USA, an organization that builds schools for children in India so that they can have the same education that we are fortunate to have.

The event, hosted by Bollywood actor Omi Vaidya, exceeded all expectations – the event alone raised around $1.4 million dollars. Over the course of the evening, delicious food, cocktails and music by jazz vocalist Devika Bhise filled the room. An inspiring speech from Teach For America CEO Wendy Kopp helped invigorate the guests as well as the live tele-conference with one of the Pratham schools introducing some of the students and what they hope to achieve. The night ended with bhangra music by Bikram Singh and everyone continued to dance through the exit doors.

Throughout the evening, donations were accepted and included a silent auction with amazing prizes art pieces from Aicon Gallery, business class tickets donated by Ovation Travel, autographed memorabilia and precious jewelry by Sej Jewels. The silent auction raised over $45,000!

tanaRi events was happy to be a part of this important event & cause! The decor was beautifully designed with fall color tones in mind with gold, red & brown. But, leave it to guests who made a very colorful statement! Check out our photo gallery below – photos courtesy of tanaRi events & Sarah Merians Photos

Help Us By Helping Others!

Holiday season is a time to reflect on the past year and evaluate the things that were great and things that you’d want to improve in the upcoming year. One thing I know many people struggle with is finding the time to do something good for humanity. It’s easy to get caught up in the various causes that people advocate for. While they are all very important, they may not speak directly to you.

Here at tanaRi events, we suggest researching for causes that have specific meaning to you. If you know someone who was diagnosed with a fatal illness, involved with substance abuse or living with a disability – there is always somewhere for you to donate your time and/or money that will show your dedication to a particular cause.

For those unable to find causes that you want to show your support, here are a few that we find highly relevant and prominent:

Sandy Hook Elementary School – We were all shocked and horrified at the events that took place this month at this school in Newtown, CT. Money donated to this site will be sent directly to the elementary school to be used towards repairs to the school, supplies and aid with funeral costs for the 20+ children & teachers that were shot at Sandy Hook.

Occupy Sandy – The East Coast was devastatingly impacted by Hurricane Sandy in October, tearing through New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Philadelphia and destroying thousands of homes & important landmarks. This site recommends locations where you can volunteer your time as well as use any donations to provide blankets, clothes and other necessary items to individuals who have lost everything.

Shape Up! America – Obesity (in children specifically) is growing to become the #1 cause of unnecessary deaths.  Shape Up! America helps research and recommend ways that one goes about living a healthy lifestyle to curb this epidemic in America.

Pratham – an organization that helps bring schools for young kids in India who would otherwise not be schooled. Money donated could support a “pen pal”, buy school supplies or go to building a school.

Other sites that are trustworthy & give you various cause-related options to choose from:

Red Cross

Save The Children

Just Give

Do Something
